The Historic Arrow Rock Council will have its 40th anniversary for the
Heritage Crafts Festival in 2008. It is a juried show. Attendance is 3,000
for the 2 day event. They are requesting $1500 for advertising to draw
people from 50 miles or more. Sandy Selby is chair of the Historic Arrow
Rock Council and Tempe McGloughlin chairs the Craft Festival. It is the
single biggest event for Arrow Rock. The event is the second full weekend
in October each year.
Stan explained that the Marshall Tourism Commission has two areas of funding:
marketing (and that is the area this committee focuses on) and development
(building or repair of bricks and mortar). Applications for 2008 are due
in October.
State coop marketing dollars are based on current beds available. There
is some potential for additional dollars according to a workshop that
Rose Anne and Stan attended. A level 2 application is being considered.
The workshop they attending provided some encouraging information for
efforts here. State coop application is due in March and dollars are available
in the summer of 2008.
The Commission would like their dollars to be additional dollars rather
than replacing funding streams that affiliates had in the past. Showing
matching dollars in applications in the future is a real plus.
Bill expressed that we need to measure the “value added” for
the Commission marketing dollars added.
Affiliate project applications were reviewed.
Next scheduled meeting October 18, 2007, 9 a.m. Saline County Extension
Center.
Action items:
Develop measurement instrument to measure the value added of the Commission
dollars. Identify who will ask for this information, receive and do reporting
with the data.
Certification application for designated marketing organization (DMO)
