Tourism Committee, Marshall Chamber of Commerce Committee members present: Stan Moore, Jene Crook, Ken Yowell, Sally Poole, Rose Anne Huck and Cynthia Crawford. Jene Crook moved and it was seconded that the minutes from last week be approved. Motion passed. Stan reported feedback from the tourism committee.
Stan brought up the KC Visitor’s and Convention bureau’s work. Rose Anne is working with Green Printers to have a proof for next meeting. Events will be in chronological order. Further developing the park section – Indian Foothills Park. Trying to reclaim some “green space” in the final brochure. The map is hard to read. The font is difficult and the contrast is not as good. Still puzzling on whether to generate one or two brochures at this point. The smaller brochure could have more pictures and fewer words to entice visitors. Need more photographs. Rose Anne will push to get both brochure proofs for next meeting. There is a .pdf file on the website (at the end of the business listing on the visitors page) that can be printed and faxed to provide information on additional events or locations. Sally is working on making the form one that can be submitted. Groups we talked to: Saline County Fair – would be interested in printing brochures in the 5,000 to 8,000 range. In addition, 2,500 pieces of a separate brochure for Cornhusking. Marshall Public Schools – no money for production but we can help with distribution. It can cost about $3.00 to send out a complete packet of information. Pennytown – printing brochures in the 5,000 to 8,000 quantity range Slater Bear Creek Blues Festival – 5,000 brochures and $600 radio advertising. Rotary Bar-B-Que – 5,000 brochures. Show Me Water Garden Tour – 1,000 brochures and some radio advertising Farm Toy Show – Probably radio advertising. Brownfield Network might be something to investigate for any local event advertising because it would be out of the 50 mile radius. Marshall Parks and Recreation – Website design improvements and 5,000 to 8,000 pieces of a brochure. They currently print about 750 booklets. Missouri Life Magazine – quarterly ad featuring various locations and events Plastic bags – eye catching bag to package brochures. Bags cost $1200 for 10,000 bags in color. Need mailing envelopes to coordinate. Kansas City Convention Bureau – Stan will do further research Tourism Brochures – 10,000 new updated brochures Chamber Tourism Website – updating and maintenance. May need to include park web site as well. Marshall Quilt Guild – has not responded at this time as to whether they wish to participate. Sally suggested an idea for the future. This includes lots of separate brochures. It might be possible to combine some of the brochure information into a small magazine format. This could reduce printing costs and be handier for visitors to use. Next week we need to review the proofs of the brochure and discuss any additional ideas for the grant. Next meeting will be September 13 at 9:00 at the Extension office. Minutes co-recorders – Jene Crook and Cynthia Crawford

She brought the revised small brochure and large brochure to the meeting for review. The group spent time proofing the brochures. Much has been accomplished! Rose Anne outlined the remaining steps. Final approval by group and then 10 days until printed. Rose Anne has a quote for the envelopes. $625 for 5,000. $1180 for 10,000. Chamber will ship brochures to the tourism kiosks around the state. If the grant will allow for community based training/workshops, please add $500 or $1,000 for this. The ad for the Dec issue of Missouri life will need to be approved next meeting. Agenda for next meeting: Final proof of brochures Wayne to pursue leads on quality pictures for toy show (from Toy Farmer) for MO Life ad. Wayne Crook to get Rose Anne contact information.
