be approved. Motion passed.
Betty Lenz reported to the committee on the 2008 quilt show plans. Another
outstanding show is planned. They expect 450 – 500 each year. They
anticipate numbers only going up. The guild has 60 members. She also presented
a budget request for the 2008 tourism commission application. The request
is $2501.30.

The facility has gradually been shaping up. It is time to begin advertising.
Focus:
1. Interested in the history of the building and building restoration
– “If these walls could talk” project.
2. Gallery space for fledgling and established artists.
3. Kazoo – space where Head Start was will now be a children’s
art museum. Interactive displays. Ideas include metal mosaic room, melted
crayon activities, sand fantasy box, wax hand stations, fountain building
exhibit, laser/mirror design, pin sculpture, puppets…
Target market to develop first – schools/children.
Initial needs could include flyers, help with mailings to people 50+ miles
away, further website design, promotion for special events…
Pahlo welcomes donations of any materials that children can use to be
creative – cardboard rolls, colored paper, fabric pieces, buttons,
lace…
Angie Wells discussed the Community Theater with the group. Website: marshallcommunitytheatre.com
Looking forward to having more polished promotional brochures to send.
Looking for new audience participants as well as volunteers and acting
members. Currently have a 650 person mailing list. They will be trying
a variety show this fall. Their request for 2008 is $3,000, primarily
to support Nunsense – a musical. All dollars
will support marketing. Can only confirm dates at the Spainhower building
only 3 months in advance. This is a limitation to circulating show dates
in advance. Also, can be complications due to security issues. For these
reasons, would like to explore options for show sites.
Marshall Parks and Rec anticipates printing a 2008 booklet again. Ongoing
website development. Jeff Stubblefield is thinking about how to market
the skateboard park. Tournaments keep people in town 2 or 3 days.
Stan anticipates requests from Cornhusking and the Fair Association affiliates.
Arline Borchers brought an update from the Boonslick tourism group. We
need some black and white artwork of the work here to “grab and
go.” Saline County needs to be a full partner in this group. The
Boonslick tourism group focuses on Cooper, Howard and Saline Counties.
Service mark for “Smart Dog Nice Folks” has application in
progress thanks to Poole Advertising.
Missouri Life has a full page ad special for 40% off indicates
Rose Anne.
Mylar balloons have been received for use beginning with the Santa Fe
Trails day kickoff. Buttons are also ready for use beginning with the
Santa Fe trails day kickoff the first Friday in August. These materials
are funded by the MFA Oil tourism grant.
Rose Anne showed a flyer “Verona Dog Jog” from Verona WI.
Rose Anne has determined we have accomplished all requirements to be a
Designated Marketing Organization with the state.
Ken reported that he has obtained 80 of the Jim the Wonderdog books. The
sale price is $11. $3.50 proceeds go to the Jim park. Then Chamber keeps
50 cents for handling.
Don’t forget the Dennis brother’s monument in the cemetery
as a remarkable part of the community.
The Civic Center is going to be another important asset for tourism. 2008
will be the first year for marketing the facility. There are two aspects
– the museum and also the meeting/group facilities.
