Music and The Arts

Marshall Community Chorus – With a wonderful array of musical styles, the Marshall Community Chorus celebrates concerts around the year for a variety of special occasions. In the Christmas and Easter seasons, they team with the Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra for community concerts.

Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra – Enjoy this volunteer team of musicians, scheduling performances throughout the year. Schedules available through the Marshall Chamber of Commerce. For more information: 660-886-9763

Marshall Municipal Band – A dedicated and talented group of musicians sponsoring concerts on the courthouse lawn every Thursday during the summer season. May 31 through September 9 from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Marshall Cultural Council – An organization devoted to supporting the arts, artists and arts education in Marshall, MCC sponsors the Bob James Jazz Festival in May and other events featuring music and art throughout the year. For more

Slater Bear Creek Blues Festival –Every June, we have some of the finest Blues in the Midwest. Saline County is home to many talented musicians. Check “Calendar” web section for dates and times or log on to: www.bearcreekblues.com

Birthplace of Bob James – Jazz is the first love of musician and composer Bob James. One of his most notable compositions is the theme from the long-running television show “Taxi.” Bob has played with many music greats. His music can be found at the Vox Box and Applebee's Restaurant has a corner dedicated to his career.

Bob James Angels

The gifted jazz pianist, Bob James, is from Marshall, MO - check out his web site and order some great music. His latest CD above was recorded in Shanghai with students from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music playing Bob's music on ancient Chinese instruments.
