Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism CommitteeDecember 16, 2009 Present: Stan Moore, Pam Thomeczek, Ken Yowell, Arline Borchers, Bill Riggins, Cynthia Crawford Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Pam Thomeczek moved the October meeting minutes be approved. Motion passed. Stan passed out an agenda. The level 1 tourism funding from the state is labor intensive for the amount of money available. Stan discussed what it would take to move to level 2 funding. The Marshall tourism brochure is about $4,000. $10,000 threshold of advertising expenditures per year for a 2-year period to qualify for level 2 funding. Ken brought a proof of the new Marshall tourism brochure. It is ready to go the printer with minor final changes. Cynthia moved and it was seconded to submit it on to the printers. Ken reported it is time to order new mailing envelopes and plastic bags for tourism materials. Pam discussed an opportunity for advertising on the website. The committee has been approached by a group wanting to promote online gambling. Arline moved and it was seconded to not accept this advertiser. Motion passed. Stan reviewed a list of funding approved by the Commission. Stan took these requests, on behalf of this committee, to the Commission:
Stan reviewed the tourism affiliate partners YTD spending for 2009. The following requests presented by this committee for 2010 have been approved by the Commission:
The only grant that was funded and submitted independently was the YMCA soccer field project $922 Pam is thinking about the potential of a Saline County Dining Guide. Cynthia showed the tote bags generated for distribution in Taiwan. This project was funded by a Taiwan University. Meetings in 2010 will be the 3rd Wednesday mornings of the month at 9 a.m. at the Saline County Extension Center. Pam moved and it was seconded to adjourn.
