Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee

September 18, 2008

Present:  Stan Moore, Ken Yowell, Arline Borchers, Cynthia Crawford

Guest Kathy Borgman

Cynthia moved and it was seconded that the minutes from last month be accepted.  Motion passed.

Kathy Borgman briefed the committee on three proposals:

*Santa Fe Trail Association. 2009 Symposium $1668

*Arrow Rock color brochure.  Request for $2,000

*advertising for the craft festival.  Request for $1500

The Regional Cuisines Project will have an afternoon meeting plus a food/wine pairing in Marshall on September 30 at the Marshall Civic Center beginning at 2 p.m.  A second meeting is set for November 11.

The regional projects (cuisines, scenic byways, ExCEED, etc) are looking to establish one 501©3 for an umbrella structure.  That group has set up a regular monthly meeting for the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 6-8 p.m.  The next meeting is set for October 14 in Higginsville.

Information about Gee’s Bend quilts was distributed from Norma Jeane Ferguson, 2009 quilt show co-chair.

Ken moved, and it was seconded, to tweak and fine tune the general tourism brochure and reprint at Green’ Printers for use in 2009.   Motion passed.

Stan and Rose Ann attended a Div. of Tourism recently.  A proposal was submitted by the September 1 deadline for funding consideration of $2500 matching funds in the first 6 months of 2009.  The proposal is for website development.  No paid advertising is permitted for state funded project work.

The new brochure about Jim the Wonder Dog is great.

Ridge Park Cemetery has 200 confederate soldiers buried and there is a plaque at the entry.  Jim Hinzler has some interesting information about historical figures buried there.

The committee memorialized Evelyn Count’s contribution to Marshall and Saline County at the conclusion of the meeting.
