Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism CommitteeAugust 21, 2008 Present: Ken Yowell, Angie Wells, Pam T., Rose Ann Huck, Arline Borchers, Tuesday Russell, Cynthia Crawford. Angie Wells, vice president, called the meeting to order. Agenda items for today: Jim the Wonder Dog brochure MDT application Arrow Rock request Jim the Wonder Dog Clip Review brochures Boonslick update Old Trails project Scenic Byways project Application process by Tourism Commission Update from Boonville work Arline Borchers moved and it was seconded to approve the July minutes. Motion passed. Ken distributed the Jim the Wonder Dog brochure and the group was delighted with the brochure. Great! The Quilt Show brochures were appreciated, as well. Rose Ann will be submitting the MDT application on schedule. A problem is that we do not have 2009 dollars committed by the Commission prior to the deadline. Arline updated the group about the September 1 Boonslick Folk Festival and funding raising efforts including a quilt raffle and duck race. Rose Ann Huck brought information from 3 projects Arrow Rock will be including in affiliate requests. The Jim the Wonder Dog video clip was reviewed by the group and found to be very usable. Saline County hosted the Old Trails meeting on July 30. The group enjoyed being in Marshall for the day. Stan and Rose Ann will be our representatives on the steering committee. The regional cuisines project is integral to the Old Trails work. The next meeting is August 26 from 5-7 p.m. Those going will meet at Bank MidWest at 3:30, College and Highway 65. Rose Ann attended a bus tour to the Mississippi River Hills project earlier in August on a bus tour. She was totally impressed with what has been accomplished. Arline reported that Leo and Lloyd from Arrow Rock welcome brochures to distribute in N. Kansas City. Pam T. confirmed that a number of people from Kansas City are coming into the Waverly area on weekends. They need to be pulled on east into Malta Bend, Marshall and Arrow Rock. Kathy Fairchild sent information via Cynthia that the first farmer’s market was a big success. They will be the first Saturday in September and October, too. Boonville has a festival of lights each Thursday evening in September. Festival of the Arts September 27 and 28. Also a Katy Bridge festival. Meeting concluded at 10:30 a.m.
