Marshall tourism tax guidelines

The tax was passed in 2004, tax collected beginning in 2005 and grants started in 2006. Stan reviewed the original guidelines with the committee. It is time to revise this document before the next round of funding.

Goals (may not be a complete list):
• Look at 50 mile radius for advertising
• Refine development section – more specific
• Refine visitor ready language
• Signage
• Current visitors aware of what else is here

Stan suggested this committee can work on this via e-mail. Need to be done by August so it can be implemented in the next round of grant applications.

Begin discussion on revisions with Tourism Commission in June.

Tourism website

We are proud of the visitmarshallmo.com website. An underused aspect is the community calendar. What are mechanisms to use with our affiliates to get them to use the community calendar?

Quarterly e-mail requesting events get on the community calendar?
Mention in Chamber newsletter each issue?

Benefits – reduce conflicting dates for major events
• increased participation
• lets this committee know of specific events we can include in our promotion mechanisms

Next meeting June 22, 2001 at 9 a.m. These meetings are open to all.
