Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee

March 20, 2008

Committee members present:  Stan Moore, Rose Anne Huck, Angie Wells

Guests: Rachel Harper, Democrat News

Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 a.m.

Angie Wells moved and it was seconded to approve the minutes from last month.  Motion passed.

The ExCEED Old Trails Project is working to help communities and counties work together.  The Scenic By-Way highway serves to tie regions together.  The Santa Fe Trails event certainly relates to the theme.  It fits in the long range plans of the Division of Tourism, as well.  The group reviewed Regional Cuisines literature and the color-coded map along the Missouri and Mississippi River.  The committee is optimistic we can partner with these projects.

Rose Anne gave a positive report about the Agritourism sessions at the March 14 conference.  The group asked Cynthia to see if John Shopland’s notes are available for review.  They suggested that Carla Barbieri consider developing a workbook to go along with her presentation, helping families and communities work through the planning process of Agritourism.

The Division of Tourism application is in.  We are waiting for a response.

The group was enthusiastic about the June/July MO Life ad.
Sandy Selby is in charge of the Arrow Rock craft festival
The Barns and Quilts Boonslick Tourism Council Project is moving forward.  The group met recently in Marshall.
Stan will meet with Bill about developing a position description for a potential VISTA.  Cynthia is to provide Stan with a copy of the application and check that there are still positions available for this work.

A report back to the Tourism Commission is due March 31 reporting on 2007 work.  The committee has much information to provide.

The Community Theater group presentations are on hold at this time.  They are doing some strategic planning.  A Christmas show is planning for early December 2008.

The group appreciated a tour of the facility by Marshall Kraus and agreed this is a marvelous addition to the community and county.
