Chamber of Commerce
Tourism Committee Meeting
October 26, 2011
Attending: Stan Moore, Pam Kirchhoff, Marshon Stephenson Umana, Pam Thomeczek, Kathy Cary, Amanda McCord, Betty Lenz, Barb Berlin, Larry Arrowood, Cynthia Crawford
Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. in the Saline County Extension Center.
Larry Arrowood moved and it was seconded to approve the minutes from the September meeting.
Missouri Life campaign has 1 more issue for 2011 – one page ad for Marshall.
Department of Tourism grant for first 6 months of 2011 is in. The Marshall Chamber of Commerce is the DMO for Saline County. The renewal asked for a two year progress report plus a 5 year projection. Results announced by Dec. 31. It will help to collect documentation of projects as we go at the Chamber of Commerce. Seven sets are needed – 5 for commission, one for this committee chair and one for Chamber office.
Tourism Commission grant applications are due to the Chamber on Oct. 31. Combined application due to commission on Nov. 30. The priority is marketing and promotion. $85 – $90,000 available for grants. Cynthia asked that the grant application be posted on the tourism and Chamber websites home page at least until the October 31 deadline.
All bills for 2011 tourism efforts needs to be turned in for payment/reimbursement by November 30 to the Chamber for processing.
The Country Patchwork Quilters had another successful quilt show reports Betty Lenz. There were 70 full sized quilts, small quilts and crazy quilts. Millie Sorrel was the guest artist. 441 paid admissions plus 35 complimentary admissions plus members and workers. 500 is their best estimate of attendees. In 2012, the location will be at the Martin Community Center September 29 and 30. A light lunch will be served on site, as well.
Applications have been received from the Cornhusking Festival, Country Patchwork quilt guild, women in Ag conference, Friends of Miami, Slater Bearcreek Blues festival, Friends of Jim the Wonder Dog, Mar Saline Development and Pennytown. Not received to date: Santa Fe Trails, Boonslick Tourism, Bow hunters, Farm Toy Show, Friends of Arrow Rock, Nicolas Beasley, Civil War Heritage, Marshal Parks and Rec, Saline County Fair plus any new applicants.
Distribution list for tourism brochure will be reviewed at the November meeting.

Next meeting November 4, 9 a.m. This is a special meeting to review applications. The regular meeting date of November 23 is cancelled.
